A Frozen Moment

I was on a busy street in Florence and having just consumed a particularly delicious cone of chocolate mousse gelato, I got the idea to muck around with exposure times on the ol’ Canon. Some of the busier streets were closed off to traffic (this was a Sunday) and taken over by wanderers and shoppers. So it was a good time for messing around with crowd shots.

This was one of the results - and I was quite pleased with it. I didn’t deliberately focus on the one person standing still - he just turned up later when I was looking at the results. But the timing makes it seem like we are given a little peak into his world as the buildings and people swirl around him in a blur.

Hmmm now I want more of the chocolate mousse gelato - so light and fluffy and chocolatey!

Florence is a city to stroll around. I was initially surprised at how small the place seemed - it was pretty easy to walk anywhere you wanted to go. Which is just as well after you’ve had the experience of driving through it. The Boy still wakes up screaming at night recalling that taxi ride from the train station to my friends place.

Even though you walk a lot here in Japan there is one curious thing I didn’t take into consideration. Cobblestones. Walking on them left these freaky huge blisters right on the balls of my feet. I was wearing flat shoes as well. Maybe that’s the secret - I should have been training wearing heels for 2 months beforehand to toughen up that part of my feet.

Travel tip: Florence doesn’t have many big department stores (or in fact any) so if you are wandering around and you need to go to the toilet I can recommend the ones in the basement of the big market. Small fee - but very clean and the lady who takes your money will smile at you even if you speak crappy Italian.
