Yes it’s that time of year when we get together to drink and forget the year…I went to Misa’s bonenkai tonight in Kichijoji. While waiting for Kristen and Tod at the train station (I had ridden my bike - note to self find gloves…) I saw this dude hanging out right outside of the koban (police box). You can’t see it well in the photo but he was doing this complete pimp look - striped suit and leopard print overcoat (which Ka-kun would kill for I suspect).
I couldn’t stop laughing at him anyway…
Misa’a bonenkai was at an Okinawan restaurant. The food was pretty yummy - except for the strips of pig ears in mayonnaise which did not pass these lips let me tell you! The rest was mostly just vegies and noodles ![]()
The sake they were serving was…evil. 40% proof rice wine. The first sip I took put hairs on my chest! Then I mixed it with some sour lime-ish Okinawan fruit drink and it tasted pretty darn fine. However I was not feeling brave enough to try the “hebi sake” as shown below….

No your eyes are not playing tricks with you - there is a snake in this jar of sake.
I’d heard about this type of sake before - but I’d kinda assumed that there would be a snake - rather small in size - lying at the bottom of the jar looking unobtrusive - kinda like the worm in a tequila bottle.
I was NOT expecting an entire jar of snake with some sake preserving it.

I’m usually pretty game with trying things - especially those of the alcohol persuasion - but somehow I just couldn’t bring myself to open the jar and dip the ladle in…
Many people told me that apparently it’s good for the body but I didn’t notice anyone actually trying it themselves.
Maybe one day when I’m feeling braver…
