Us Japan Bloggers are certainly becoming a social bunch. A few of us met last night in Harajuku for a bit of food and drink. A bit more of the drink and not so much of the food for me - which is why I’m feeling a little delicate today. I usually forget to eat when I drink. It’s not a good thing.
We only talked a little about blogging - mainly gossiped about life and all of it’s wonders. One of the more amusing conversations was about the weird searches people do and yet find their way to your blog. I think the winner is “sonorific fetishism” - but don’t quote me on that! As you can see from the pic -
my blog turns up with some interesting keywords “boy, ripped, clothes, naked, hentai, devil may cry, road kill, jambalya” (the last one confuses me). Of course I expected to turn up in a search for “Soup”. I am a bit surprised though at the Takuya Kimura ones…maybe his popularity isn’t waning as much as I thought. Kristen is always amazed at the number of hits she gets for an old entry in which she mentioned “Maria Yumeno”, a famous porn star. Seeing the search results really makes you wonder just what you dribble on about sometimes…
Speaking of dribbling, I was talking about the meetup right? So the bloggers who were there…
Paul : IN-duce.net :: Japan-Sync
Terri : (who doesn’t have a blog yet but does have a fab book out)Bush in Wonderland
Sajjad : http://www.sajjadzaidi.com/
Carsten : Based on a True Story
Jim : Wirefarm
Stuart : www.stuartwoodward.com/
Kevin : Batish.net
UltraBob : The Dynamic Duo
After the meeting one fruitcake (hides her Hello Kitty Big Echo membership card) convinced some attendees of the party to go to karaoke. I must admit I was amazed at the vocal talent in the room! Paul and UltraBob are fabulous singers (of course Terri too but she doesn’t count cause she’s a pro) - but everyone could hold a tune, even Jim, who claimed that he only goes to karaoke as an observer not a participator.
Hmmm maybe this could become one of the Blogger Meetup traditions…
Experienced an odd thing on the way home. On the packed last train, the person next to me got off, but no-one would sit down. This rarely happens to me. I felt a bit ostracized. That coupled with this stupid telemarketer who laughed at me this morning when I told her to go away, made me feel on the outer of society again. The thing is that I’m only answering the phone now (instead of screening the calls through the answering machine) because my brother may call me from his ship somewhere near a place on the brink of war. I’m usually polite to telemarketers, because the person on the line is not who I have a problem with, it’s the companies I get pissed off at. But no more. I’m going to speak in English and when they ask me (in Japanese) if I understand Japanese I’m gonna say No and then hang up. Should spin some heads at least. This ploy seems to work with the door-to-door salesmen, who walk away with a puzzled look and a question perched upon their lips…

The “No, I don’t speak Japanese” trick can sometimes backfire. The other day, I brushed off a return call from the hotel I was making a reservation with! They said they’d call between 9-11, but it was 2:30, so I didn’t suspect it was them…until I got an email from them at 2:40. Oops!
How does a jambalya look? And what are it? And which eat it? Would like more to write now but must english teach, and twist un-brain before hand!
The “I don’t speak Japanese” worked well for me the other day when some Jehovah’s witnesses tried to quote scripture in Japanese at my front door the other day…. I love that Japanese doors open out and are very easy to pull closed.
Actually, i did the Yahoo jambalya search (i admit it, im fascinated!) and you dont come up unil the third page, No 51 in fact! That person was pretty dedicated to finding a visual image for jambalya!
For more information than you ever wanted to know, just ask me!
Actually babe, i was going to ask you to revisit your ‘Please Don’t’ theme, but too late, they already did, hope Mas will be ok (honestly, sure he will be, in terms of being there, out to sea is pretty safe!) and if you talk to him tell him Im on his side!
Just checked Carsten’s blog and there is a great photo of you singing; it is great cos it totally captures the true essence of the triumphant, end of the song sung well (, everybody knows one!) smile that i have seen on your face so many times at karaoke over the years….. Ah, natsukashiiii! And why am i not surprised that it was you that dragged them all to karaoke?
As you may have guessed, i ahve no students in my class tonight, and am just trapped here at the computer, hence my incessant posting. Ill stop now.
I hear the J-ster crying out for her own weblog!
/me gets ready to start a new one on mediatinker for her…
I can’t sleep. Mas’ ship the Kanimbla is in the Persian Gulf now.
I’m really getting anxious.
Kuri, thanks sweet, you know, i think i am ready! All i need now is a computer! Any donations?
