Boys Playing Dress-up

Had two kinda surprise visitors come over today - Ka-kun and the J-ster. Ka-kun loves my fake leopard fur coat. So he found it on the hanging robe and decided to give us a “rock-style” fashion parade. Couldn’t take the photos though until he had the mic positioned just right…

Japanese boys have to be among the most fashion-conscious in the world. The Boy spends more time shaping his eyebrows than I do. Before the Boy and his younger brother (20 yo) go shopping they check up on what’s cool in the “dude” magazines and choose what they want and which shops stock it. Then they will go to each of the shops to find it for the cheapest price. This means that a shopping trip to buy one pair of shoes (which have already been selected from a pic in a mag) can take up to 3 or 4 hours. I went with them once. Note the “once”. I hate shopping. It’s boring. The J-ster will only go shopping with me if I’m hungover so that I’m subdued enough. Otherwise it’s go in shop - look around - get bored - need ciggie - need drink - need toilet etc etc ...I’m a speed shopper - I know what I like - go in find something similar, try it on, if I like it I buy it. Usually takes ‘bout 10 minutes.

I think I inherited this way of shopping from my Mum. She’s not really a “browser-type” of shopper. I have flash-backs of whizzing shopping centre scenes sometimes.

The type of shopping I hate most is grocery shopping. Aisles full of people wandering around thinking about what they should have for dinner. Arrrrgh!

  • Ka-kun looks almost as good in your coat as you do!

I am not fond of shopping (except to try on hats and play with furry bits on things) becasue I can neer find what I want which is usually out of fashion or doens’t come in my size.

But I love the grocery store in the mornings when there’s nobody else around. Do not make me buy food on a weekend afternoon. With so many people around, I get cranky fast and have to buy ice cream to soothe myself. If I can bear to stand in line for 20 minutes to pay for it.

    • Ka-kun is lucky that he didn’t put his hands in the pockets - Im a ratbag for putting half-used tissues in all of mine. It drives the Boy nuts…(especially when I borrow his clothes)...
