Aren’t my new slippers cool?
Not only are they warm and fuzzy but they blend in with the floor! Woo hoo!
Yep you guessed it - nothing much exciting has happened today.
I did talk to my Mum and Dad and Step-mum on the phone. Mum should be a stand-up comedian - her stories crack me up. Let me set the scene a bit - she and my Step-dad live in the Tanami Desert in Central Australia in an aboriginal community. Their job is doing admin kinda stuff. They have 4 dogs. 3 are adopted camp dogs and one is a stray who followed me home from school about 14 years ago. Winston - one of the former camp dogs - tends towards violence. They usually have to muzzle him in public. He is the main protector of the pack. So the other day Mum was in the kitchen making lasagne, when two strangers strolled into the house. Winston went crazy…and then disappeared… Mum threw the lasagne into the oven for safe-keeping (from the rest of the pack) and ran outside to check up on the two people who had come in. They were parole officers who thought that Mum’s house was the council offices (she can’t work out why - looks like an ordinary house to her). She was expecting to see the woman bleeding profusely - but she was fine. Apparently Winston just nudged her out the way. They sorted out their business and left. But where had Winston gone? Somehow he had dashed into her office and managed to shut the door behind him. And lock it. Mum said that he’s done this before - so much for their watch dog…
My Dad is full of stories about Kimutaku - the kitty I sent from Japan. He is one freaky cat. However Dad had some other freaky animal story to tell - he breeds yabbies in large ponds (like other members of my family he chooses to be anti-urban) on his country estate. Lately he’s found them on walkabout. Several of them decided that they didn’t like their pond anymore and moved out. He changed the water filtering system and has seen no more great escapes of the yabbie kind.
Now you’d think I’d be immune from animal stories in central Tokyo - but no. I thought that finding in snake in Kamiyacho was amazing - but kuri has decided to try and beat me with her “Japanese- badger sighting in Bunkyo-ku” claim. I still think that she was coming home from playing pool (without me), had a few too many amber Kirin juices and stumbled across a very fat and ugly cat…:p

OK, what’s a yabbie? Fish with legs?
Honestly you are so Yankee sometimes - a yabbie is like a river prawn - the live in the river mud and taste beaut when cooked up!
