The comments left by Jeff and Sajjad on the last entry got me to thinking - not only have I been a hermit in real life but also one online as well. It seems that it’s only when I’ve been distracted enough by an earthquake or pending tsunami do I post an entry of late. Apart from a few photos chucked up sporadically on flickr and a few scattered comments around the place I haven’t been online much.
Since about October I moved into this phase of work and am now on the verge of launching 5 or 6 sites. In December I took the 5th off for Ultrabob’s wedding, and then Christmas day when Dazza and Trivia Man came to stay, and then last Sunday when I went to the zoo.
You know when I write it out it sounds rather insane.
There are a pile of half packed boxes which were supposed to be sent out before xmas still sitting in my office. I am rarely on iChat, and behind on personal emails. The printer I bought 2 weeks ago is still sitting in it’s box beside me. The Boy has been keeping up with the cleaning and laundry, and thankfully feeding me. Until I went to the zoo last Sunday I had not gone further than 5 kms from my apartment in more than 3 weeks. Until I saw Kristen and Tod I realized I hadn’t spoken English face to face with anyone since Boxing Day.
I take time away from the computer to do some exercise, and water the plants and of course care for the turtles. The turtles are in better condition than I am - and the pine tree i bought before xmas is actually still alive. I make sure I tuck the Boy in every night, and usually make him a coffee before he goes to work (although that’s because I’m often still up from the night before). I find it easier to work at night without interruptions - the down side of that is of course my body clock is completely stuffed up.
On the positive side I think I am doing some good work. I’ve been pushing myself more programming and design wise than ever before. I am generally feeling good about what I am doing.
I have offers of couches to sleep on in Florence, California, Singapore and Adelaide. Air fares are pretty reasonable right now and the fantasy of taking off and just kicking around for a week somewhere is both motivating and tempting.
The next couple of weeks will see the insanity continue, and then I want to work on getting everything more in balance. Now that the Boy has finally had his last hospital visit last Wednesday and declared 100% better, he is going to take on a bigger share of the load and has been studying web stuff more even. Also I have just acquired a dedicated virtual server and am really looking forward to working on some personal stuff too (and things I started working on for friends that are on my To Do list but I haven’t been able to play with much).
In case you are worried about me - I have had a cold, but am otherwise sort of healthy. In November I had a complete thyroid scan and blood work and I’m all in the clear there. (As a side note - if you are in Tokyo and want to have your thyroid checked out go to the Ito Medical Clinic in Omotesando - right near Omotesando Hills - they focus on thyroid issues only, and the doctors are really good even if your Japanese isn’t perfect.)
Anyway it’s 2am and the alarm is set for 8am… so I should try to sleep… hopefully my brain will let me. Lots to do tomorrow. Er today. Er…... the next time I’m awake.

And Austin, TX!
So many couches and so little time!
Gomicouch Tour 2007!
Italian sofas are really nice. I would love to sleep on one. Go with that.
I’ve been slacking off on the blogging over the past year, but I’ve just hit the reset button and I’m starting again, on wordpress.
