So it was with much dread that I go back to the clinic to get a progress report. This time the Boy came with me (they had asked - I guess to prove it wasn’t immaculate conception or something) - which I guess put a bit more of a strain on it because he was quite nervous.
We waited for a while, the Boy browsed through maternity magazines which oddly enough made me feel much more nervous. There was so much just ... stuff. And so many babies smiling. And happy rotund mothers in sack-like dresses….
I am called in - and it’s a different doctor. He takes me into a curtained off area, explains what he is going to do clearly in Japanese, introduces me to the equipment and sits at the scanner next to me and makes soothing comments as it’s inserted. (Yes for those who don’t know this scans are performed with a probe shoved up there - if that sounds terrifying then forget about ever having sex).
I ask the doctor his name and it turns out he is the owner of the clinic. He enthusiastically shows me all around and takes several scans, handing me a few. He explains that it’s all recorded on DVD and that he’ll give that to me later converted so I can see it.
He explains about ovary size and placement during the scans and a little about miscarriage percentages (one in eight pregnancies he commented - although not taking in my age as the percentage increases after 35).
The examination over, the Boy is summoned and given the basic facts about what is happening. A nurse then takes several vials of blood from me, commenting how easy it was to see my veins.
So it seems that the alien blob is settling in and maybe wants to stay…

next thing you’ll have named it!
I vote for Blob. That’s the name of a winner.
Let me know when to send in the bluebirds, ok?
