on edge

by MJD-S

I’m making a second attempt at giving up smoking. No monumental reason for doing it at this time - but a gossip session with the j-ster on Thursday night involved way too many cigarettes. Even the smell of a cigarette turned my stomach on Friday - and I could barely get thru one myself.

So thought it was a good chance while I was feeling so revolted to kick em aside.

Haven’t had one since Friday. I am wrestling with myself now. It’s hard to get through this bit. Trying to get the Boy to give up too - it’s hard watching him indulge when fighting the urge…gyah now I need another cup of green tea…trying not to substitute food…next I’ll have to fight my caffeine addiction from green tea ...*whimper*

  • You can do it!

Aren’t there any products to help smokers quit (patches, gums, etc.) available in Japan?  I’ve never seen anything…  but I sure have seen a lot of smokers.

    • Oh good luck babe! I hope it sticks. I dont know if this will help, but i met a man once who suggested that one thing you can do to make giving up easier is to not RESIST the cravings… he said that giving into the craving, thinking about how nice a smoke would be, imagining having one, and then moving onto thinking about the bad feeling you get from them, what they are costing you physically and financially, and then onto what you want to take their place in your life (a healthy body, saved money… whatever works for you) and by then its a few moments later and you can butt that imaginary cig out and get on with some work again…

      I hope that helps…?

      • does greentea have caffeine in it? I thought, for some reason, that it didn’t.

        • One my friends, who gave up, said that he could not say that he wouldn’t have a cigarette again but he could say that he wouldn’t give up again. When the pangs got bad he used to go outside a bite a tree! Another old geezer told me that when he was giving up, he was in Scotland on holiday at the time, he would stop the car and go out and kick a sheep (really!). It didn’t help the craving, but it certainly made him feel better…

          Good luck!
