Finally a card carrying member of the ADSL crew as of late Friday night! In a very surprising move one of the tech support people from my new ISP interlink acctually came to my apartment to help set it up as we’d tried for two days over the phone and were unable to do so. For back-up and moral support the amazing tech-fighting duo (Kristen & Tod) with their sidekick Zoupi and quite a few drinks were consumed.
If it wasn’t for Tod I would never have got connected. NTT apparently sent me out this new type of router/ADSL modem and neglected to inform anyone on how it actually works - it was worked out by reading the manual of the thing - not any of NTT’s copious outdated pages of setting up info. NTT also refuses to give any kind of technical support in this situation.
So basically this router/modem can be set up to be a bridge or router type, and requires no actual set up on the computer. Tod connected to it with his laptop and typed away furiously working it all out with the tech dude standing next to him awed and fascinated. He did explain what he’d done - but Kristen and I had already polished of a bottle of wine by then and I’m really not sure about the details.
I’m really grateful that so many people came and helped me out! (*blows raspberry at NTT*)
