Many gaijin often complain about how difficult it is to shop here.
And fair enough because it is a bit of a trial. There isn’t a wide range of sizes, even in clothing stores with a foreign label (ie Zara). The cuts of the shirts and pants mean that many of the buxom girls need to buy a large in a shirt and then invest in a safety pin to preserve their diginity. Trouser legs have thankfully become a little longer than when I first got here, although many still manage to hover somewhere above the ankle for anyone over 160 cms tall.
And of course undies. Until an amazing discovery yesterday, I’d always gotten people to send me mine from overseas - because there is not one pair of undies I have bought here that haven’t had the tendency to crawl inside my bottom. I have never been desperate enough to buy the old ladies type of pants which came up to the waist though - I may not like crawling panties but that doesn’t mean I’m going to completely abandoned all sense of style either.
Well Uniqlo has come to save us. I bought a 4 pack of cotton brief undies for 990 yen, in different colours with a cute little stripy pattern. I have given them a strenuous one-day test and gleefully report that they have not crawled at all, feel nice and soft, the elastic doesn’t cut into you anywhere and they have survived a rough attempt at being removed.
So if you have been having trouble finding some decent undies - get your bum into Uniqlo (^^).

I’ve been trying to find someone to help me with the rough-attempt-at-removal test for their boxers, but so far no takers. :-(
(Maybe I should try asking people further away from the station?)
Um ... “their boxers” means Uniqlo boxers belonging to me, not prospective testers.
Mr. Antipixel, you crack me up.
Uh oh, I’m going to have to do some serious packing… I HATE trousers that are too short… And the japanese pants situation is unacceptable!
Uniqlo ankle length cotton available in colors other than white or black socks? Own my soul.
Have you noted that the Uniqulo cotton ankle socks (now up to 5 pair for 990 yen) have an estimated lifespan of approx 3 weeks before the non-reinforced toebox gives in?
Or do I gotta trim my claws more often?
